The Victoria Cool Aid Society (Cool Aid) is seeking volunteers for its Board of Directors. Don’t miss this opportunity to be involved with an organization that provides life-changing services to adults who are impacted by poverty, colonization, stigma and homelessness.

Cool Aid’s Board of Directors is a welcoming group of community volunteers dedicated to supporting and promoting the society’s vision, mission, and guiding principles.


The Board is committed to implementing anti-racism strategies throughout organizational and governance practices. The Victoria Cool Aid Society respectfully acknowledges the lək̓ʷəŋən (Lekwungen) and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples, on whose unceded and traditional territories we are building homes and deliver our programs and services. The Victoria Cool Aid Society Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers recognize that the impacts of systemic racism are at the root cause of inequities in our society, are the cause of the trauma and displacement of Indigenous people and are barriers to the achievement of long-term health and well-being.

The Society seeks new Board Directors with diversity in experience, race, age, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, country of origin, and ability. The Society particularly encourages applications from those who identify as Indigenous, as a racialized person, or individuals who have lived experience with mental health challenges, substance use, homelessness or disabilities.

The following skills and experience are also welcomed: community health, social housing, urban Indigenous issues, real estate and/or development, *financial management, organizational development/business, fundraising, *legal expertise, media relations, *government/public sector (i.e. public sector housing, shelter or crown agency governance or program operations experience), urban planning and community leadership.

*Specialized skill areas strongly needed.

Cool Aid’s Board of Directors operates as a governance board. A Director’s key responsibilities are to:

  • provide strategic guidance and oversight.
  • promote and advance Cool Aid’s vision, mission, and guiding prrinciples.
  • commit to Cool Aid’s Anti-Racism Strategy and complete required educational training.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, financial, and contractual obligations.
  • Commit approximately 8-10 hours monthly to board responsibilities.

Board responsiblities include:

  • attend monthly full Board meetings (held at least 10 times yearly, generally 4th Wednesday/month from 5-8PM).
  • participate in at least one of the four Board committees (held monthly over lunch hours or early evenings – 1-1.5hrs).
  • attend all Society meetings (special and annual general meeting-July)
  • attend annual strategic planning retreat (Fall)
  • support a variety of special events (i.e. client sponsored dinners; Pride Parade, philanthropy events, etc.)
